Rewiring older homes and new builds across Hertfordshire

We rewire homes and wire new builds across Hertfordshire, including St Albans, Watford, Hemel Hempstead, Hatfield, Welwyn Garden City, Stevenage, Hertford and Harpenden. Much of our rewiring work is in the county’s Victorian and Edwardian terraces and in the 1950s to 1970s houses built across the new towns, where original wiring, rewireable fuses and missing RCD protection are common.

Beyond Hertfordshire, we take on larger rewires and new build projects across England, working alongside builders, kitchen fitters and other trades to keep your project on schedule.

FAQs

Rewiring questions

How do I know if my house needs rewiring?

Common signs are an old fuse box with rewireable fuses, rubber or fabric-covered cables, sockets on skirting boards, scorch marks, lights that flicker, or breakers that trip often. If the wiring is more than 25 to 30 years old, an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) will tell you whether it needs a full or partial rewire.

How long does a full house rewire take?

A typical three-bedroom house takes around five to ten working days, depending on the size of the property, access, and whether floors and walls are already lifted for other work. We’ll give you a realistic timescale when we quote.

Can we stay in the house during a rewire?

Often, yes. We plan the work room by room and restore power at the end of each day wherever possible. It is easier if rooms are cleared and you can live around the work for a week or two.

Will I get a certificate?

Yes. Every rewire and new build installation comes with an Electrical Installation Certificate, and as a registered contractor we notify the work to Building Control on your behalf, so you receive a Building Regulations compliance certificate too.
